Safely Removing Corroded Nuts with a Hydraulic Nut Cutter
Hiap Seng provides pipe line maintenance services for Shell at their Pulau Bukom oil and petrochemical production facility. Removing corroded or frozen nuts is a common challenge when performing pipe maintenance. A frequent approach for removing corroded nuts included a chisel and hammer, flogging, or gas torch; however these methods often damage the flange face, bolt or gasket and take 15 to 30 minutes per nut.

Gas Turbines Installed at Takhiatash Powerplant with a Hydraulic Gantry
Istanbul-based, Hareket Heavy Lifting and Project Transportation Co. has completed the installation of power generation equipment at the Takhiatash thermal power plant in Uzbekistan using an Enerpac SBL1100 telescopic hydraulic gantry. The gantry was used to lift and place two sets of gas turbines and generators weighing 357 ton and 292 ton respectively.

Mammoet, a leading heavy lifting and multimodal transport solutions specialist needed to install 98 large conveyor sections as part of Rio Tinto's Western Turner Syncline Project, at their open pit mine 20km northwest of Tom Price, in the outback of Western Australia.

SKYFFOLDING Scaffolding and Lifting System Supported by Strand Jacks
Heavy lift specialist, Enerpac Heavy Lifting Technology, has supplied Korean based engineering company, KLES, with strand jacks for an innovative tower scaffolding system called SKYFFOLDING™ (Platform-supported Boiler in-Furnace Scaffolding and Lifting System). The Enerpac HSL1507 strand jacks support and lift the pendant-type, scaffolding system, as it grows, providing a safer working environment than traditional scaffolding during power plant boiler furnace maintenance.

The offshore highway is of a multi span bridge structure located in the open sea 100m to 200m from the shoreline. Each bridge pier consists of various concrete components, one of which will be a reinforced concrete, gravity base, which is placed on the seabed.

Stud Removal on a Stacker Reclaimer with Hydraulic Tensioners
Removing the 3 meter long studs on the bucket wheel drive output of a Sandvik stacker reclaimer is a difficult and lengthy operation. Operating conditions corroded the studs and the confined location of the stud does not allow access with traditional removal equipment. Previous operations required more than 10 hours to remove each stud and used up to 120 tons of force to push and pull a total of 16 studs.

The Kosciuszko Bridge is actually two bridges that span Newtown Creek between the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. Opened in 1939, the 6,000-foot truss bridge is part of Interstate 278, and is known locally as the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

Pulling Pins on an Oil Well Casing Elevator Spider
The borehole of every oil well drilled must be cased with a durable material to prevent contamination and provide structural support during drilling. An elevator spider is used as a guide to aid in centering each casing. The pin on the elevator spider must be replaced after every drill in order to remove corrosion, dirt and grime built up during drilling. MOISS’s existing process for removing the pin took up to 4 hours and required continuous hammering.

Repairing the Foundation of a Tilting Silo with Steel Piers
After several freeze and thaw cycles a crack formed in the silo’s foundation. Over time the crack expanded and permitted water to erode the soil under the silo’s foundation. The northwest portion of the silo’s foundation had settled 4 inches causing the silo to tilt. In order to re-stabilize the foundation, the 680,000 pound silo needed to be lifted, leveled and structurally supported.
